History

The almost 200-year history of the family business, in which textile knowledge, traditions and innovative strength have been passed on through generations, stretches from 1833 to the present day. In the Zurich Oberland in Turbenthal, the fabrics produced in Europe are still conceived and the designs characteristic of Schlossberg are drawn by hand at the original site.

At home in the Töss Valley

The Töss, the river, the water – it magically attracted the textile industry in the early 19th century. At that time, innovative progress was still powered by water; the energy supply for large machines was available, and so Lieutenant Johann Kaspar Winkler opened a mechanical spinning mill in Turbenthal. The stately spinning mill building with a water wheel, its own gearbox and 7,344 spindles marked the beginning of the story. This means that Boller Winkler and Schlossberg are as old as the University of Zurich or the Ringier publishing house.

Jakob Boller - 1878

Johann Jakob Boller, who was only 21 at the time, came from a modest background and founded his own textile manufacturing business. Jakob Boller purchased yarn from local spinning mills, specified the type of fabric and design, and then had it woven by local farmers on a contract basis. He visited regional markets with his horse and cart, where he found his first loyal customers.

Born out of love – 1903 & 1906

The love marriage of Helene Winkler and Johann Kaspar Boller in 1903 led to the merger of Boller Winkler in 1906. The union was sealed with the construction of a new mechanical weaving mill. The old weaving mill building still stands today and serves as the company's in-house studio and office space at its main location in Turbenthal.

Weaving looms in operation - 1950

The old, robust weaving machines – 460 mechanical looms in total – ran at full speed, producing fabrics that were already finding buyers throughout Europe at that time. In the 1950s, the company began to focus on its current business area: the manufacture of home textiles.

Schlossberg Textil AG was founded and the brand and marketing gained in importance. The brand name ‘Schlossberg Switzerland’ is not a fantasy product of advertising, but a real mountain in the area. Bruno Boller, then head of the company, had this wish. The idea was that the castle stands for luxury, the mountain for quality and sustainability.
